Symbiosis 5

The music of the Symbiosis 5 quintet founded in Budapest in 2020 is strongly inspired by modal and contemporary jazz. Their repertoire consists of their own compositions mainly written by drummer Roland Majsai, pianist Levente Kapolcsi-Szabó and saxophonist Máté Drippey.
They perform regularly at the Budapest Jazz Club, Opus Jazz Club, iF Café Jazz Club. They also played at the Bueño Jazz Festival and the Eivissa Jazz Festival in Spain.
In 2022, the band won first the place at the Getxo International Jazz Competition and the Sibiu International Jazz Competition. In January 2023, they were awarded first prize as well as the public prize and two special prizes at the Müpa Jazz Showcase.
Benedek Virág achieved his bachelor degree in jazz guitar at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 2022. He participated at the II. Szentendre Main Stage Pop Music Competition, he achieved second place with the Blumen Therapie band. He is the member of the Majsai Roland Standard Trio. In 2020, he was nominated for the Young Jazz Musician of the Year title. Besides being a musician, Benedek Virág gives guitar lessons in several music schools.
Levente Kapolcsi-Szabó is currently doing his Master's programme in jazz piano at the Liszt Academy, Budapest. He contributes to the Symbiosis 5's repertoire with his own compositions. He was awarded the best composition prize for his piece Nostalgy at the Jazz Combo Competition in 2023. He is also the member of the Kriszta Koncz duo and performed several concerts abroad with the Tamás Szarka band. Levente also gives piano lessons at several music schools such as the Járdányi Pál, the ImPulzus the Patrona Hungariae.
Tamás Gyányi plays in several musical groups such as the Wind+ (established with the members of the Hungarian State Opera), Sequence Quartet and Vígszínház Orchestra Budapest. He played in the Symphonic Orchestra of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, with whom he performed at the FIMU Fest in France. In 2018, he received the National Young Talents' Scholarship. His first album, entitled „The First Journey” by Sequence Quartet, was published in 2019 by NarRator Record. He was selected to contribute to the Cremm program’s international musical group – performing in Hungary and Morocco. He was the second best of the „Pege Aladár Bass Contest Hungary” in 2021.
Roland Majsai started playing the drums when he was 11 years old. He obtained his Bachelor degree in jazz drums at the Liszt Ferenc Academy Of Music. He permanently performs with his group Roland Majsai Standard Trio and contributes to several musical groups as session musician. Roland gives drum lessons at Herceghalom Elementary and Art School. He was awarded the public prize at the Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition in 2022. He is one of the main members of the Symbiosis 5 and contributes to the repertoire with his compositions.
